OMG, I haven't updated my blog for over three months now!

Anyways, I came across My Dream App about a month ago when I was reading TUAW. This is how My Dream App works: it's for people who have such great ideas, but don't have the programming skills (like me). You submit your great ideas to My Dream App about 'your dream application'. If your idea is good enough you will be chosen as one of the 24 contestants. Then there will be an elimination round, if you get eliminated in the first round (6 eliminations) you get an iPod shuffle. It's stated that you get the 512MB version on the site, but I think you're going to get the new updated one that came out on Sept. 12th. Then if you get eliminated in the second round (6 eliminations), you get a 1GB iPod nano, again I think it's going to be the new 2GB nano. If you get eliminated in the third round (3 eliminations) you get a 2GB iPod nano, again probably the new 4GB nano. If you get eliminated in the fourth round (3 eliminations) you get a 30GB 5th gen. iPod. I think they should let the person choose between the 8GB nano or the 30GB iPod because if it was me I'd rather get the nano, I already have a 60GB 5th gen. iPod. If you get eliminated in the fifth round (3 eliminations), you get a 1.5Ghz Mac mini, again I think it's going to be the new 1.67Ghz Core Duo mini. And if you are the 3 winners, you get a 1.83Ghz MacBook (or a new version if a new one comes out before the competition ends) and a lifetime contract where you get 15% of the money made by your shareware.

Now if you think about it, 15% is *BETTER* than 0%. And if you learn to program yourself and make your own program, you might not get as much publicity. So getting 15% from these dudes at My Dream App is not a bad deal! You might get more from this than 100% from making your own app!

iPod U2 (Again!)

The iPod U2's red and black always captivates me. But I didn't buy the 4G one because it can't play video! So I bought my 60GB black 5G iPod in december '05. If there was a U2 version back then I might consider it. I might buy the 5G U2 right now, but probably won't use it. I probably won't even see it! I'll put it in its box and keep it there, just knowing that I have my U2 iPod, maybe the last U2 iPod edition that will feature a red click wheel (since 6G is believed to be touch screen)! Oh........such a great looking iPod!!!

This is a picture of how my desktop looks like (if you're interested).

My desktop picture is not actually a picture, but a program. It's called Earth Desk by Xeric Design (http://www.xericdesign.com/). It's a really cool program that updates every minute (or whatever interval you choose). I can see exactly where in the world there is a hurricane by looking at the coulds and see exactly where there is sunlight. Pretty cool app, but quite expensive.

In my dock, from left to right, I have: Finder, Dashboard, Mail, Safari (I don't like Firefox or whatever other stuff there is), iChat, Address Book, iCal, Automator, DVD Player, Quicktime, iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, GarageBand, Corripio, LimeWire, iSquint, Podner, MacTheRipper, HandBrake, Nikon View 6 (it sux, but had to use it to import), Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Entourage, Final Cut Pro, Cinema Tools, Compressor, LiveType, Soundtrack, Keynote, Pages, Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional, Acrobat Distiller 7.0, Adobe GoLive CS2, Adobe InDesign CS2 (really great program!), Adobe Illustrator CS2, Adobe ImageReady CS2, Adobe Photoshop CS2, Bridge, Lightroom, Aperture (Superb app! I think it's even better than Adobe's lightroom even if lightroom is free! If I were to choose between Aperture and Adobe Photoshop, I'll choose Aperture!), FlashPlayer, Flash 8, Dreamweaver 8, Fireworks 8, Google Earth, Encyclopedida Brittanica, Worms 3D, EarthDesk, VirtueDesktops (works great with Virtual PC!), Desktop Manager (I use this program and VirtueDesktops alternatively since both are pretty much the same but I can't make up my mind to choose one from the other), Preview, Script Editor, Xcode (for programming), WhatSize, Activity Monitor, Doom 3 (I get headaches everytime I play this game for prolonged periods of time! What a shame!), Toast Titanium, Virtual PC (let's be boot Windows XP!), Skype, MSN Messenger, System Preferences. And I have a lot more programs in my Applications folder!

Now this is how my widgets look like:

Calculator comes in very handy at times because I don't need to go and get a real calculator everytime I need to calculate something. The unit converter is also great since I use it for currency converting, very easy and the values are up to date. Translator is used quite often, sometimes I encounter an interesting website but I can't read the text, that's where this little widget comes in handy. Then there's the world clock, very nice since I sometimes want to check Cupertino time to see if it's 12AM there yet or not, if yes, and it's the day of an important accouncement, then I'll go to www.apple.com and find out that the Newton 2, the iTablet, iPhone, iPod 6G, and the MacPro is released! I use the stock checker to check Apple's stock just for fun, and use the dictionary when I don't understand some words (But Ctrl + Cmd + D will do for words that appear on the computer, just hover your cursor over the word and press the combination! I know, Mac OS X is great!). Other than Apple's supplied stuff, there's This Day in History and This Day in Apple History. Very nice little widgets that gives me valuable information. Then there's iLounge, Macteens, Sunlit Earth, iTunes Stats, wikipedia, Dawn Dusk (so I know when the sun comes up and goes down), Apple Logo (for fun), and the best of all: iStat Pro. This widget gives me all the info about my computer from fan speed to RAM to temperature to Network, really nice app.

Three Gorges Dam "construction" complete

Construction work on the controversial Three Gorges Dam is finally complete! What the hell? This fuckin' dam will destroy all the Chinese culture the country has accumulated over the fuckin' years! I am myself a real Chinese by blood (but I live in Thailand), and I don't think the dam is such a good idea. Of course it will replace many nuclear power plants (12? something like that) or it will reduce China's dependence on coal, I think it's better if China were to build nuclear power plants, or use the money to improve their coal power plants so it will operate at the maximum efficiency! This day will be a very sad day marking the destruction of Chinese heritage along the Yangtze river.....and will flood large amounts of Chinese land......

Microsoft sued by Symantec

Even though I don't really like Microsoft, but this is some bad news because it might push Windows Vista release further away. And that will mean I won't be able to try it on my (future) Mactel. And that also means people won't be able to see that Vista is actually inferior to OS X sooner....too bad....I'll just have to wait, enjoying my OS X at the moment....

Hey Hey!

This is my first blog post ever! I wish my first would've been on .Mac via iWeb but too bad, I just don't have the money to subscribe and the money to buy iLIfe '06.

As you can see from my title, I'm a big BIG Mac fan......no, let's change that, I'm part of a Mac cult. I'm crazy about Macs, and I know quite a lot about Macs, a lot more than the average Mac cultist! I hate Windows, but I fucking hate Creative more than Windows. Their company name is such an oxymoron! And the annoying thing is the fact that they keep on suing Apple over the fucking iPod interface!!!

I currently have a second generation iMac G5 with a 20" screen. It's a pretty decent computer, but I just wished it had a firewire 800 port. If I get an Mactel, I'm probably gonna install Boot Camp then install Windows (even though I'm a Mac cultist) because I like to play games, like Counter-Strike Source.

Apart from being a Mac cultist, I'm also a Marilyn Manson (semi) cultist. The reason for the semi is because I don't think I am as crazy about Marilyn Manson as I am about Macs! But nevertheless, Marilyn Manson rocks!!! What I really don't understand is why do Christian people need to hate MM? MM is just singer. And human psychology suggests that the more people oppose something, the more interesting it becomes. It also gets publicized since the press talks about it or it comes up occasionally. And that's exactly how I got to know MM, through "Bowling for Columbine" the documentary. If there was no hype at all about MM, then Michael Moore might not feature MM in the documentary, and in turn I won't even know who he is. But thanks to all you Christians out there! I got to know Marilyn Manson!!!!

The third thing I'm crazy about is Nikon, the camera brand. But the level of dedication I give to Nikon is about 1/20 of that I give to Marilyn Manson or 1/100 of that I give to Apple. Yes, that means I like Apple a lot, and that's why I'm an Apple cultist!!!! Nikon make great products, Canon does too, but as a matter of personal taste, I prefer Nikon. I don't want to start a debate here because I like both brands, but it just happens that I like Nikon more. They use DX CCDs, so it's cheaper, their lenses are *sharp*, they have really great glass (even though the range avaliable for consumers sux), their camera ergonomics are better, their camera layout feels better, they're better!
